“I am healthy, I am strong!” sang the Herdish Nordic Team at the starting line of the 1K cross country race, “Bristol Mountain is where I belong!” The air was clear and calm at Bristol Mountain as a slew of athletes, coaches and volunteers arrived for the day’s cross country skiing events. The anticipation and excitement of the day circulated throughout the Summit Center while athletes laced their boots, pinned on bibs and waxed skis. As the races began, the sound of bells and cheers rang out through the trees. A level of support and encouragement unsurpassed by any other coursed through the trails. The Adirondack Vikings high-fived at the starting line of their 4K relay race. Their relay team is competing to qualify for the World Special Olympic Games which will be held next year in Sweden. Their coach, Patty Femia, will be traveling alongside of them. “It’s the perfect day for this race. It’s beautiful out, the conditions are great and everyone is so excited and motivated. It’s an overwhelming experience.” This high-energy continued throughout the day.
