2019

Nearly 1000 athletes from across New York state are in the Rochester region competing in six events across four venues. Friday evening at 8pm, the Winter Games kicked off with opening ceremonies at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Athletic competition in six sports began Saturday morning at the four venues – Swain Ski Resort, Bristol Ski Resort, Genesee Valley Park Sports Complex and the Riverside Convention Center.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
